Production Engineer

£40000 - £45000 per annum package, negotiable

Are you an experienced Production Engineer, or Manufacturing Engineer? Looking to break into markets including Formula 1? Want to work in a modern manufacturing facility with state of the art equipment and an environment that encourages training and development? Then we want to hear from you!

Trading for over 50 years, the business manufactures machined components for industry-specific needs. They have state of the art equipment and facilities, along with a team of over 70 staff across production. A constant investor in people, they strive to nurture engineers from within and develop a strong skill base in an increasingly difficult market.

Benefits for the role include a salary between £40,000 - £45,000 per annum (dependant on experience), 32 days holiday including bank holidays, company pension, opt into private health-care, and childcare vouchers.

Responsibilities for the role include -

  • Work closely with the machine shop floor, to analyse data and make business improvements within Quality, Cost, Timing and Versatility.
  • Create manufacturing CNC programs and proving out as and when required.
  • Help to drive continuous improvement within the business and train staff as and when required.
  • Liaise with the Design team, to help improve designs for machining.
  • Implement Quality tools such as PFMEA, Control Plans, and Flow Charts.
  • Ensure that any fixtures and tooling manufactured in house, or externally is aligned to requirements.
  • Co-ordinate projects as and when required.

Quality Inspector (Afternoons Shift - see below for hours of work)

An established manufacturer of safety critical components, is looking to recruit an experienced "hands-on" Quality Inspector to join their team.

To be successful you will be driven and have the aptitude to use your own initiative to problem solve in a timely & effective manner.

Purpose of Role:

The Quality Inspector will be responsible for reviewing, verifying and releasing incoming materials and the inspection & release of finished products.

Skills / Experience:

  • Experienced Quality Inspector in a precision / metals environment
  • Manual inspection measurement tools
  • MUST BE able to understand & interpret technical drawings / specifications
  • Produce First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR)
  • Non Conformance management

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect incoming materials and outgoing finished products, components and assemblies utilising appropriate measurement tools/calibrated gauges
  • Perform visual inspections as required
  • Test, measure and analyse products as required
  • Produce detailed reports including First Article Inspection reports as required
  • Read & interpret charts, drawings, layouts & work instructions
  • Document inspection results by completing reports and logs
  • Observe CMM machine during operation

Hours of work: Monday to Thursday 1300-2130 / Friday 1300-1800

The ideal candidate for this role will be an experienced Quality Engineer within a machined/precision component environment who is analytical and competent in Microsoft Excel to be able to collate, analyse and present data.

Purpose of Role:

The Quality Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that products received and manufactured meet both customer requirements and internal strict Quality standards in accordance with the Quality Management Systems.

You will be responsible for identifying quality issues and providing an efficient resolution to ensure zero impact to the customer. Another big part of the role is to develop and implement a "Right First Time Approach", reducing process variation and non-value added waste, whilst promoting a continuous improvement culture.

In the role of Quality Engineer you will be responsible for:

  • Managing all company quality related issues including Processes, Customers and Suppliers
  • Implement an accurate data collection process, drive improvement and report weekly
  • Carry out internal product/process audits and work to resolve any internal corrective actions
  • Apply problem-solving techniques to drive 'Right First Time' culture
  • Support Manufacturing/Engineering to ensure up-to date Process Instructions
  • Implement Work Instructions & Visual Aids where appropriate
  • Review & respond to non-conformances and quality problems (Internal, Customer, Supplier)
  • Monitor & report on quality-related KPI's including Scrap, Quarantine and Rework
  • Ensure personnel fully understand requirement of approved standards to include ISO9001 / AS9100
  • Lead, train and implement SPC
  • Support in the analysis of CMM data
  • Clear backlog of PPAPs and Corrective Actions
  • Establish processes to support internal KPI's and agree a company target for reduction
  • Actively reduce customer defect rates and non-conformances
  • Carry out Internal & External Audits as required

Skills/Experience/Knowledge required to be successful:

  • Experience as a Quality Engineer, Supplier Quality Engineer, Senior Quality Engineer,
  • Resident Quality Engineer in a busy manufacturing/engineering environment
  • Machined/Precision components experience
  • Familiar with core Quality tools to include MSA, Control Plans, Inspection Plans, PPAP's, PFMEA's, FAIR and Process Capability Studies
  • Must be analytical with the ability to collate, analyse and present data
  • Problem Solving techniques
  • Able to read technical drawings / instructions
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications particularly Excel

You will provide day to day technical support to the Production and Engineering facility.

The Manufacturing Support Technician will document all production builds to assist Operations to be able to define efficient routings, build processes and cycle time reduction.

In the role of Manufacturing Support Technician you will be responsible for:

  • Building custom equipment and tooling for production
  • Train personnel and provide recommendations for improvement

Market leading 1st Tier supplier are seeking an experienced organisation for a Quality Engineer.

The Role

  • The Quality Engineer will to ensure the company meets the requirements of the ISO 9001 standard and the Quality Management System (QMS) contribute to the continuous improvement of the business.
  • The role demands the daily disciplines associated with quality control and the longer term systematic waste and reject reduction across the business.
  • A key requirement is the desire to fully understand processes to enable the identification of process risk.
  • The Quality Engineer to control risk through robust standard operating procedures and appropriate in-process controls.

The Successful Candidate

  • The role is challenging and would suit someone who is methodical in their approach, and can manage a large volume of work to tight deadlines. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with problem solving and confident decision making ability.
  • The successful applicant must be assertive, proactive and able to challenge traditional methods of work in a constructive manner.
  • They will be educated to 'A' level standard (or equivalent) which should include Maths and Science.
  • A Yellow belt in lean Six Sigma is essential.
  • Applicants must be proficient with all Microsoft software, including Excel, Word and Access.
  • Experience with Minitab would be advantageous.
  • High levels of accuracy are essential as the role also includes record keeping.
