I’ve worked for ASC Connections for over 10 years as an Engineering and Technical Recruitment Consultant.

My focus is finding permanent solutions for both blue and white collar manufacturing across the East Midlands and surrounding areas. One of the main areas I focus on is CNC engineering, along with skilled conventional machining, toolmakers, maintenance engineers, and field service engineers for OEM’s.

Using my market knowledge of clients and candidates, coupled with a deep technical understanding of the roles I work on, allows me to support clients in the best way possible when trying to find the right talent for their business.

CNC Milling Machinist

Are you a skilled CNC Milling Machinist looking to break into the Aerospace sector? Want to work in a modern facility with state of the art equipment, plenty of overtime and an environment that encourages training and development? Then we want to hear from you!

The company is a specialist design, manufacturer and supplier of a wide range of high quality products for the aerospace and public sectors, distributing all over the UK and overseas. Key clients include Tier 1 to Rolls Royce UK. The products are produced under a "World Class" quality system accredited to ISO9001, ensuring the highest possible standards are maintained. Part of the Midlands Aerospace Alliance, this company retains the reputation of market leader in this industry by attention to detail and business excellence.

Working hours are 8am - 4:30pm Mon to Thurs, with an 4pm finish on Friday

Benefits include an hourly rate of £14.07 p/h, Overtime paid at Time & 1/2 for weekday and Saturday, 20 days holiday plus bank holidays (Increasing one per year to 25), Extra days holiday for 0% sickness, Company pension scheme with up to 6.5% employer contributions, and an annual bonus (dependant on company performance and profitability)


Responsibilities for the CNC Milling Machinist include -

- Working on a range of 3, 4 & 5 axis CNC millers within the cell
- Calling up pre written programmes, editing and modifying then programme prove out
- Full setup including tooling, jigs, fixtures, material, speeds and feeds
- Running a first off and inspecting using measuring equipment, before final pass off from QC dept
- Working from customer drawings, CAD designs and job route cards
- Producing one off components from high value materials including inconel, stainless and aluminium
- Running multiple machines within the cell area, as part of a large group of programmers & setters
- Adhering to all health and safety procedures and general upkeep / maintenance of the equipment and work areas daily

We would love to hear from you if you've had experience in the following -

- CNC Miller, Machining Centre setter, 5 axis Milling Machinist, CNC Setter Operator
- Be able to edit and modify programmes using either FANUC, Heidenhain or Mazatrol
- Confident with high frequency setups for 1 off component manufacture

CNC Programmer

£33000 - £38000 per annum OVERTIME

The business has been established since 1969, initially providing a jig and fixture service to the West Midlands engineering industries, then quickly progressing into a complete engineering solutions provider. 40 years of engineering knowledge and experience has culminated in the creation of a family run group that compliments the capabilities ensuring all engineering disciplines are catered for. They also have a sister company locally which provides a multitude of engineering services enabling the group to cover most eventualities.

Working hours are 4:30pm - 2:45am Monday to Thursday

Benefits include a basic hourly rate of up to £15 p/h 25% shift allowance, overtime paid at Time & 1/2 for weekday and Saturday, Double Time Sunday, 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, sick pay during absence, a company pension scheme, and other incentives


Responsibilities for the role include -

- Programming, Setting and Operating of 3 & 4 axis HAAS & Bridgeport Milling Machines
- Using either HAAS or FANUC language to write new programmes long hand at the machine, then prove out
- Jig & Fixture creation for new products introduced to the business
- Full setup including tooling, jigs, fixtures, machine speeds, and feeds
- Running a first off and inspecting using measuring equipment, before final pass off from QC department
- Working from customer drawings, CAD designs, and job route cards
- Producing one-off components to small batch work from a range of materials
- Continuous improvement to programmes written to improve cycle time, tooling life and scrap reduction

CNC Programmer

The company are an established and world renowned leader in the design, development and manufacture of precision high quality parts for the oil & gas, pharmaceutical and medical industries. As part of their continuing expansion they have an opportunity to work within their prestigious engineering facility in Nottingham. Working alongside a team of highly skilled CNC machinists, you'll be given full autonomy over delivering finished articles from a customer drawing or specification.

Benefits include Hourly rate of up to £15 p/h, overtime paid at Time & 1/3 for Weekday, Time & 1/2 Saturday Weekends, 32 days Holiday including bank holidays, and a solid company workplace pension

Working hours are 7:30am - 4pm Mon to Thurs, with a 12.30pm finish on Fri 39hrs per week

Role and responsibilities

  • Responsible for Running of HAAS 2 axis Turning Lathes
  • Online programming from CAD drawings using HAAS controls
  • Setting up tooling and fixturing, prove out and execute part programs
  • Manage the programming of updates and new components.
  • First off part inspection using measuring equipment, before issuing to QC for final pass off
  • Producing low to medium volume precision parts, including bespoke / prototype parts when required
  • Apply a continuous improvement approach

CNC Service Engineer

£40000 - £45000 per annum Benefits

The business is oneof the largest and established companies in the UK that specialise in the supply, installation, commission and repair CNC Machines. They have a highly experienced UK wide team, providing a comprehensive service to customers across a range of sectors including Steel, Automotive, Motorsport including F1, Aerospace, Oil and Gas, Energy, General manufacturing, Machine shops, Stone Cutting, Wood, Heavy Industry.

Benefits including an excellent base salary of up to £45K per annum for the right person, plus company credit card for expenses, company van, mobile phone & laptop, 28 days holiday increasing 1 per year to 25, and a commission bonus related to machine sales throughout the year

Responsibilities for the role include -

  • Breakdown repairs and maintenance CNC Machines including Mills, Lathes, Borers and Grinders
  • Fault find and repair of machines at customers premises
  • Carrying out both mechanical and electrical repairs to machinery including control panels
  • Installation and commissioning of machinery
  • Ordering of parts from the office, replacing and retrofitting
  • Discuss and relay machine faults with Service Manager
  • Answer customer queries on machines.
  • Travel from home to site covering your own region, but must be prepared to work within the UK and Ireland when required


The team includes over 28 experienced service engineers across the UK, with project and service managers in strategic areas of the country too to provide all round support. All work is planned at least 7 days in advance too.


We would love to hear from you've previously worked in any of the following roles -

- Service Engineer, Service Technician, Maintenance Engineer, Field Technician, CNC Engineer
- Electrically bias, ideally holding an NVQ level 3 in electrical engineering
- Good knowledge of fault finding, electrical and mechanical repairs
- Willingness to travel nationally, and to Ireland and be prepared to stay overnight if required
- Clean driving license

Standard working hours are 40 per week, no out of hours call outs are required, no weekends unless agreed by the client and the engineer to work it.

The business are prepared to be as flexible and supportive as possible, overnight stays and extensive travel is ideally kept to a minimum, but the business requires an engineer who is prepared to do both when necessary. In return the company can be equally flexible when needing time off or working around other engagements.

As part of their continuing expansion they have an opportunity to work within their prestigious engineering facility in Leicester. Working alongside a team of highly skilled CNC machinists, you'll be given full autonomy over delivering finished articles from a customer drawing or specification.

Benefits include Hourly rate of up to £16 p/h, overtime paid at Time & 1/3 for Weekday, Time & 1/2 Weekends, 6 weeks holiday including bank holidays, and a solid company workplace pension

Working hours are 7:30am - 515pm Monday to Thursday, 39hrs per week.

Role and responsibilities

  • Responsible for Running of various 2 axis Turning Lathes, some with C axis capability for live tooling
  • Online programming using FANUC controls
  • Setting up tooling, machine speeds and feeds as required
  • Manage the programming of updates and new components
  • First off part inspection using measuring equipment, before issuing to QC for final pass off
  • Producing one off to medium volume precision parts, including bespoke / prototype parts when required
