I’ve worked for ASC Connections for over 10 years as an Engineering and Technical Recruitment Consultant.

My focus is finding permanent solutions for both blue and white collar manufacturing across the East Midlands and surrounding areas. One of the main areas I focus on is CNC engineering, along with skilled conventional machining, toolmakers, maintenance engineers, and field service engineers for OEM’s.

Using my market knowledge of clients and candidates, coupled with a deep technical understanding of the roles I work on, allows me to support clients in the best way possible when trying to find the right talent for their business.

CNC Lathe Programmer

Up to £30420 per annum OVERTIME

A CNC Lathe Programmer Setter is required, for a huge engineering company based in Nottingham. Responsible for Programming and setting of various CNC Turning Lathes online, to machine bespoke and small batch parts. Permanent role working Monday to Thurs 39hrs p/w, paying up to £30,420 p/a plus overtime, and a solid benefits package.


The company

The company are an established and world renowned leader in the design, development and manufacture of precision high quality parts for the oil & gas, pharmaceutical and medical industries. As part of their continuing expansion program they have an opportunity to work within their prestigious engineering facility in Nottingham. Working alongside a team of highly skilled machinists, you'll be given full autonomy over delivering finished articles from a customer drawing or specification.

Role and responsibilities

  • Responsible for programming and setting of HAAS 2 axis Turning Lathes
  • Online programming from CAD drawings using HAAS controls
  • Setting up tooling and fixturing, prove out and execute part programs
  • Manage the programming of updates and new components.
  • First off part inspection using measuring equipment, before issuing to QC for final pass off
  • Producing low to medium volume precision parts, including bespoke / prototype parts when required
  • Apply a continuous improvement approach

Skill set required

  • Experienced in programming and setting CNC Turning Lathes
  • Competence and familiarity of programming with either HAAS or Fanuc controls, using G Codes
  • Capable of manufacturing highly detailed components.
  • Sound understanding of materials and modern cutting methods.
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision.
  • High levels of motivation and a flexible approach in terms of working hours.
  • Ability to positively interact with design and build departments to overcome engineering challenges.

CNC Milling Machinist

A CNC Milling Machinist is required for a well established engineering company based in the Derby area. Permanent role working days 8am - 4:30pm Mon to Thurs, with a 4pm finish on Friday. Rate of pay is £14 p/h, plus uncapped overtime and a generous benefits package

The role

Responsibilities for the CNC Milling Machinist include -

- Running of 4 and 5 axis Machining Centres with FANUC and Heidenhain controls
- Calling up programmes, editing and modifying then programme prove out
- Full machine setup including tooling, jigs, fixtures, material, datums
- Running a first off and inspecting using measuring equipment, before final pass off from QC dept
- Working from customer drawings, CAD designs and job route cards
- Machining one off components from high value materials including inconel, stainless and aluminium
- Running multiple machines within the cell area, as part of a 7 man team of programmers & setters
- Adhering to all health and safety procedures and general upkeep / maintenance of the machinery daily


The Suitable Candidate

The ideal CNC Milling Machinist will have the following demonstrable skills -

- Experience with programming and setting 3, 4 & 5 axis machining centres
- Be able to edit and modify programmes using FANUC or Heidenhain controls
- Confident with high frequency machine setups for 1 off component manufacture
- Understand and interpret 2D & 3D drawings
- Flexibility towards overtime when required

Working hours are 8am - 4:30pm Mon to Thurs, with an 4pm finish on Friday

Basic hourly rate of £14 p/h
Overtime paid at Time & 1/2 for weekday and Saturday
26 days holiday plus bank holidays

CNC Milling Machinist

Responsibilities for the CNC Milling Machinist include -

- Working on a range of 3, 4 & 5 axis CNC millers within the cell
- Calling up pre written programmes, editing and modifying then programme prove out
- Full setup including tooling, jigs, fixtures, material, speeds and feeds
- Running a first off and inspecting using measuring equipment, before final pass off from QC dept
- Working from customer drawings, CAD designs and job route cards
- Producing one off components from high value materials including inconel, stainless and aluminium
- Running multiple machines within the cell area, as part of a large group of programmers & setters
- Adhering to all health and safety procedures and general upkeep / maintenance of the equipment and work areas daily

Sales Manager - Robot Welding

£50000 - £55000 per annum CAR, TRAINING

A National sales manager is required for a leading manufacturing company based in the UK. The role is specialising within the robot welding industry, and requires a dynamic, technically solid sales manager to join the business. The role is a mixture of home based, field based as well as time spent at head office. Salary on offer is up to £55K for the right person, plus a company vehicle, company brand training and other benefits.

The Company

A global OEM of welding equipment, they operate not only in Europe, but also in North & South America, Middle East and Asia too. UK based operation has a setup of over 50 staff including service engineers, technical support and applications engineers, sales engineers, and management to head up the day to day operation. Very strong operation, low turnover of staff and have a family run business approach with all staff from the ground up.


The role


Expectations of the robot welding sales manager include -

  • To grow and develop key clients within the automated welding sector
  • Selling of automated welding solutions to Tier 1 businesses across a wide range of sectors
  • Excellent organisation skills with the ability to self-manage & quickly assess priorities
  • Strong communication skills including public speaking, large group presentations & discussions
  • Ability to influence major stakeholders both internal & external
  • Risk and project management skills
  • Create technical quotations & conclude price negotiations
  • Manage customer data in CRM data base and utilise analytics in pursing sales avenues
  • Able to confidently convey product benefits & cost advantages to customers
  • Confidence in creating technical & sales proposals
  • Hosting high profile customer demonstrations and open day event
  • Delivering powerpoint & other Microsoft products to create compelling customer presentations

The suitable candidate

The suitable sales manager will have the following demonstrable skills -

  • Excellent customer relationship management
  • Proven sales background working with tier one businesses to develop new or lapsed clients
  • Robotic welding application, PLC controls & programming experience
  • Specific welding experience to include: TIG Plasma, MIG / MAG laser-hybrid, Resistance welding certifications
  • Able to use a CRM system to log all all activity
  • Experience with putting proposals together and delivering presentations to customers
  • Confidence in creating technical & sales proposals

The role will be home based, with regular travel to client sites all over the UK, and also potential travel to head office when required for training.

Up to £14 per hour Overtime and benefits

A CNC Lathe Programmer Setter is required, for a well established engineering company based in Leicester. Responsible for Programming and setting of CNC Turning Lathes with FANUC controls, to machine bespoke and small batch parts. Permanent role working days Monday to Friday 39hrs p/w, paying up to £14.35 p/h plus overtime, 33 days holiday and a solid benefits package.

The company are an established market leader in the design, development and manufacture of products for the automation sector, supplying bespoke solutions to businesses all over the UK. They have a steady low staff turnover rate, and as part of their continuing expansion program they have an opportunity to work within their skilled machining department. Working alongside a team of highly skilled machinists, you'll be given full autonomy over delivering finished articles from a customer drawing or specification.

Role and responsibilities

  • Responsible for programming and setting of 2 axis Puma Turning Lathes
  • Creating new programmes in G code using FANUC controls
  • Prove out new programmes and full machine setup including use of live tooling
  • Manage the programming of updates and new components.
  • First off part inspections, passing to the quality department for final pass off
  • Producing low volume precision parts, including bespoke / prototype parts when required
  • Working from 2D drawings
  • Apply a continuous improvement approach to programmes
  • Conventional machining of parts if required


Skill set required

  • Responsible for programming and setting of 2 & 3 axis Turning Lathes
