I’ve worked for ASC Connections for over 10 years as an Engineering and Technical Recruitment Consultant.

My focus is finding permanent solutions for both blue and white collar manufacturing across the East Midlands and surrounding areas. One of the main areas I focus on is CNC engineering, along with skilled conventional machining, toolmakers, maintenance engineers, and field service engineers for OEM’s.

Using my market knowledge of clients and candidates, coupled with a deep technical understanding of the roles I work on, allows me to support clients in the best way possible when trying to find the right talent for their business.

CNC Milling Machinist

Are you a skilled CNC Milling Machinist looking to break into the Aerospace sector? Want to work in a modern facility with state of the art equipment, plenty of overtime and an environment that encourages training and development? Then we want to hear from you!

The company is a specialist design, manufacturer and supplier of a wide range of high quality products for the aerospace and public sectors, distributing all over the UK and overseas. Key clients include Tier 1 to Rolls Royce UK. The products are produced under a "World Class" quality system accredited to ISO9001, ensuring the highest possible standards are maintained. Part of the Midlands Aerospace Alliance, this company retains the reputation of market leader in this industry by attention to detail and business excellence.

Working hours are 8am - 4:30pm Mon to Thurs, with an 4pm finish on Friday

Benefits include an hourly rate of £14.07 p/h, Overtime paid at Time & 1/2 for weekday and Saturday, 20 days holiday plus bank holidays (Increasing one per year to 25), Extra days holiday for 0% sickness, Company pension scheme with up to 6.5% employer contributions, and an annual bonus (dependant on company performance and profitability)


Responsibilities for the CNC Milling Machinist include -

- Working on a range of 3, 4 & 5 axis CNC millers within the cell
- Calling up pre written programmes, editing and modifying then programme prove out
- Full setup including tooling, jigs, fixtures, material, speeds and feeds
- Running a first off and inspecting using measuring equipment, before final pass off from QC dept
- Working from customer drawings, CAD designs and job route cards
- Producing one off components from high value materials including inconel, stainless and aluminium
- Running multiple machines within the cell area, as part of a large group of programmers & setters
- Adhering to all health and safety procedures and general upkeep / maintenance of the equipment and work areas daily

We would love to hear from you if you've had experience in the following -

- CNC Miller, Machining Centre setter, 5 axis Milling Machinist, CNC Setter Operator
- Be able to edit and modify programmes using either FANUC, Heidenhain or Mazatrol
- Confident with high frequency setups for 1 off component manufacture

CNC Programmer

£31000 - £35000 per annum Overtime and benefits

Are you a skilled CNC Programmer looking to break into the motorsport sector? Want to work in a modern facility with state of the art equipment, plenty of overtime and an environment that encourages training and development? Then we want to hear from you!

The company is a medium sized operation that specializes in the manufacture of precision high quality parts for the formula 1, aerospace, and defence industries. As part of their continuing expansion, they have an opportunity to work within their prestigious engineering facility in Tamworth. Working alongside a team of highly skilled CNC machinists, you'll be given full autonomy over delivering finished articles from a customer drawing or specification.

Benefits include Hourly rate of up to £15.20 p/h, overtime paid at Time & 1/3 for Weekday, Time & 1/2 Weekends, 32 days holiday including bank holidays, company pension with 5% employer contributions, healthcare package, and other benefits

Role and responsibilities

  • Responsible for Running of Mazak 2 axis Turning Lathes
  • Online programming using Mazatrol controls
  • Setting up tooling, machine speeds and feeds as required
  • Manage the programming of updates and new components
  • First off part inspection using measuring equipment, before issuing to QC for final pass off
  • Producing one off to medium batch precision parts, including bespoke / prototype parts when required
  • Apply a continuous improvement approach to all programming requirements

Maintenance Engineer

£30000 - £35000 per annum benefits


Are you an experienced mechanical bias maintenance engineer looking to break into the renewable energies sector? Want to work for a business that can offer stability, growth and a highly competitive salary package? Then we want to hear from you!

The business is an award-winning provider of waste solutions for a variety of global commercial businesses, with various sites throughout the UK and plans to grow the business with more installations in the next 2 years. The site itself contains a range of bespoke equipment and a team of engineers that are all fully qualified and experienced to provide support to one another.

Benefits of the role include a basic salary of £33 - £35K per annum, Overtime available weekday & Saturday, 28 days holiday, company pensions with 5% contributions, and life insurance 3x annual salary.

Duties for the role include -

This is hands-on role, working closely with the production teams and contractors, ensuring the day to day activities are completed effectively and safely, alongside continual improvements to the production plant.

  • Responsible for the mechanical maintenance of the operational site including the production plant and equipment.
  • Overseeing the workshop area, and tracking and replenishing consumables
  • Be responsible for spares and sourcing suppliers to ensure spares are readily obtainable, resulting in minimal downtime
  • Carry out (or check that others have done) all daily, weekly & monthly maintenance activities, in line with the manual and manufacturer's instructions and that they are recorded in the site logs.
  • Review and continuously improve maintenance systems, to ensure they are working effectively and that they comply with Health, Safety, Environment and Quality regulations
  • Provide hands on guidance and training, to assist the teams with both preventative and reactive maintenance
  • Continual operation of the plant, finding faults and repairing breakdowns, whilst taking a proactive approach to providing suggestions for improvement resulting in minimum downtime and consistent production


We would love to hear from you if you've previously had experience in the following areas -

  • Worked within a heavy industry environment, such as recycling plant, crushers, large conveyor line systems or renewable energy equipment
  • City & Guilds or equivalent in mechanical engineering
  • Be able to fault find and repair mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic issues
  • Ability to carry out repairs and improvements, including welding and fabrication as required
  • College qualified or apprenticeship in Engineering


Working hours are based on 3 shifts, rotating

06:00 - 14:30 / 14:00 - 22:30 / 22:00 - 06:30 Monday to Friday

Mechanical Assembler

£12 - £13 per hour Overtime

Are you looking for immediate work but would like to work for a world-class manufacturing environment? Previously had experience with mechanical assembly of parts from engineering drawings? Then we want to hear from you!

The client specialize in the manufacture and supply of fire suppression systems in a mixed model value stream environment, distributing their products globally through various networks. The site is a huge complex with modern manufacturing facilities/equipment, employing 1000's of staff globally through their UK, European and USA sites. The company is committed to operational excellence through the use of Kaizen, Lean, Six Sigma and global sourcing practices.

In return, the position offers an hourly rate of £12.50 p/h, plus overtime at Time & 1/3 weekday, Time & 1/2 Saturday, plus holidays accrued weekly, and the opportunity of further contract extensions for the right person.

Duties for the role include -

  • Mechanical assembly of pumps & products used in fire suppression industries.
  • Build Sub-Assemblies for use in upstream processes.
  • Use of pillar drills, band saws, fly presses and various hand tools / air tools
  • Fault identification & rectification using a variety of engineering & manufacturing skills.
  • Product testing to confirm performance & satisfy legal/company requirements.
  • Paint Spraying of Pumps and other equipment within a spray booth
  • Masking off, spraying, curing and drying of products
  • Work in a variety of areas within manufacturing to support the business.
  • Work overtime in line with customer demand & business requirements.

We would love to hear from candidates with previous experience in any of the following roles

* Mechanical Assembly, Technical Assembly, prototype engineer, production operative
* Must be able to carry out Quality inspection and testing of all own work
* Be able to work from CAD drawings and technical diagrams
* Ability to work under pressure but still work to very high standards.

Working hours are 37.5hrs per week, 7:30am - 4:15pm Mon to Thurs, with a 12pm Finish on Friday

The position is initially a 12 week temporary contract, however depending on the candidate the role may be extended or potentially lead to a permanent contract.

Working alongside a team of highly skilled CNC machinists, you'll be given full autonomy over delivering finished articles from a customer drawing or specification.

Benefits include Hourly rate of up to £16 p/h, overtime paid at Time & 1/3 for Weekday, Time & 1/2 Weekends, 6 weeks holiday including bank holidays, and a solid company workplace pension

Role and responsibilities

  • Responsible for Running of various 2 axis Turning Lathes, some with C axis capability for live tooling
  • Online programming using FANUC controls
  • Setting up tooling, machine speeds and feeds as required
  • Manage the programming of updates and new components
  • Occasional use of CAM software for offline programming of more complex components
  • First off part inspection using measuring equipment, before issuing to QC for final pass off
  • Producing one off to medium volume precision parts, including bespoke / prototype parts when required
  • Apply a continuous improvement approach to all programming requirements

As part of their continuing expansion they have an opportunity to work within their prestigious engineering facility in Nottingham Working alongside a team of highly skilled machinists, you'll be given full autonomy over delivering finished articles from a customer drawing or specification.

Benefits include a starting salary of circa £38K for the right person, Overtime, attendance bonus, monthly production bonus, 31 days holiday, strong pension and lots of other benefits.

Duties for the role include -

  • Offline Programming for up to 5 axis machining centres, using EdgeCAM software
  • Creating new programmes from the customer drawing or 3D Model
  • Tooling acquisition and sourcing of the best tools for the job in hand
  • Planning the job depending on material availability and machine capability
  • Supporting the machinists with loading up the programme and providing setting instructions
  • Apply a continuous improvement approach
  • Provide troubleshooting advice to machinists in the department as required
