I’ve worked for ASC Connections for over 10 years as an Engineering and Technical Recruitment Consultant.

My focus is finding permanent solutions for both blue and white collar manufacturing across the East Midlands and surrounding areas. One of the main areas I focus on is CNC engineering, along with skilled conventional machining, toolmakers, maintenance engineers, and field service engineers for OEM’s.

Using my market knowledge of clients and candidates, coupled with a deep technical understanding of the roles I work on, allows me to support clients in the best way possible when trying to find the right talent for their business.

Centre Lathe Turner

£12 - £15 per hour OVERTIME

A skilled conventional lathe turner is required for a busy machine shop based in Leicester. Temp contract with an immediate start available, paying up to £15 p/h for an exceptional candidate.

The Company

The business offers a complete engineering service from design concepts through to manufactured prototypes and on to full production. Design services for mechanical, electronic, software/firmware solutions and manufacturing/development of prototypes typically within the high precision engineering, pharmaceutical, scientific instrument, automotive, medical, aerospace and plastics industries.
 

The role

Within the engineering workshop, duties include -

- Setting and operating a conventional Colchester Lathe
- Machining of one off and small batch precision components
- Working from 2D drawings and specification sheets
- Inspecting all own work, to within 20 microns
- Working with a range of materials including mild, stainless and some aluminium
- Finishing and preparing the components ready for shipping to customer

Working hours are 7:30am - 4:30pm Mon to Fri, with 1/2 hour break per day

Suitable candidate

The suitable lathe turner will be able to demonstrate the following skills -

- Previous experience with setting and operating Colchester Lathes
- Be able to interpret complex 2D engineering drawings
- Machine a wide range of one off and small batch components
- Work unsupervised and be a self motivated individual
- Flexibility towards overtime

The position is a temporary ongoing contract and offers -

Rate of pay of up to £15 p/h for the right person
Overtime paid at Time & 1/3 for weekday and Saturday
28 days holiday per annum accrued weekly

CNC Lathe Programmer

Up to £30420 per annum OVERTIME

A CNC Lathe Programmer Setter is required, for a huge engineering company based in Nottingham. Responsible for Programming and setting of various CNC Turning Lathes online, to machine bespoke and small batch parts. Permanent role working Monday to Thurs 39hrs p/w, paying up to £30,420 p/a plus overtime, and a solid benefits package.


The company

The company are an established and world renowned leader in the design, development and manufacture of precision high quality parts for the oil & gas, pharmaceutical and medical industries. As part of their continuing expansion program they have an opportunity to work within their prestigious engineering facility in Nottingham. Working alongside a team of highly skilled machinists, you'll be given full autonomy over delivering finished articles from a customer drawing or specification.

Role and responsibilities

  • Responsible for programming and setting of HAAS 2 axis Turning Lathes
  • Online programming from CAD drawings using HAAS controls
  • Setting up tooling and fixturing, prove out and execute part programs
  • Manage the programming of updates and new components.
  • First off part inspection using measuring equipment, before issuing to QC for final pass off
  • Producing low to medium volume precision parts, including bespoke / prototype parts when required
  • Apply a continuous improvement approach

Skill set required

  • Experienced in programming and setting CNC Turning Lathes
  • Competence and familiarity of programming with either HAAS or Fanuc controls, using G Codes
  • Capable of manufacturing highly detailed components.
  • Sound understanding of materials and modern cutting methods.
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision.
  • High levels of motivation and a flexible approach in terms of working hours.
  • Ability to positively interact with design and build departments to overcome engineering challenges.

CNC Milling Machinist

A CNC Milling Machinist is required for a well established engineering company based in the Derby area. Permanent role working days 8am - 4:30pm Mon to Thurs, with a 4pm finish on Friday. Rate of pay is £14 p/h, plus uncapped overtime and a generous benefits package

The business are a specialist design, manufacturer and supplier of a wide range of high quality products for the aerospace and public sectors, distributing all over the UK and overseas. Key clients include Tier 1 to Rolls Royce UK. The products are produced under a "World Class" quality system accredited to ISO9001, ensuring the highest possible standards are maintained. The role

Responsibilities for the CNC Milling Machinist include -

- Running of 4 and 5 axis Machining Centres with FANUC and Heidenhain controls
- Calling up programmes, editing and modifying then programme prove out
- Full machine setup including tooling, jigs, fixtures, material, datums
- Running a first off and inspecting using measuring equipment, before final pass off from QC dept
- Working from customer drawings, CAD designs and job route cards
- Machining one off components from high value materials including inconel, stainless and aluminium
- Running multiple machines within the cell area, as part of a 7 man team of programmers & setters
- Adhering to all health and safety procedures and general upkeep / maintenance of the machinery daily


The Suitable Candidate

The ideal CNC Milling Machinist will have the following demonstrable skills -

- Experience with programming and setting 3, 4 & 5 axis machining centres
- Be able to edit and modify programmes using FANUC or Heidenhain controls
- Confident with high frequency machine setups for 1 off component manufacture
- Understand and interpret 2D & 3D drawings
- Flexibility towards overtime when required

Working hours are 8am - 4:30pm Mon to Thurs, with an 4pm finish on Friday

CNC Setter

A well established Aerospace company based near Mansfield is seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Setter Operator to join their rapidly expanding team. The role is working Nights Mon to Fri, paying up to £14.89 p/h including shift allowance, along with uncapped overtime, and other benefits.

The company

Established Tier 1 Aerospace manufacturer, the company specialize in precision machined components, fabrications and bespoke projects globally. Working to AS9100, as well as being EASA approved, they're a recognised supplier to blue chip businesses all over the UK and Europe.

The role

Responsibilities of the CNC Setter Operator include -

Setting up and operating of CNC Turning Lathes with FANUC controls
Calling up programmes, making modifications, adjustments and edits as required
Performing tooling changes, datums, inserts and tip changes as required
High frequency setup and breakdown of jobs daily, for both low and medium volume jobs
Machining of ferrous and non ferrous metals, working to extremely close tolerances
First off part for approval, using quality measuring equipment and gauges
Working from detailed engineering drawings and job route cards
General upkeep and maintenance of the CNC Machinery

Initially the role will start on days for a couple of weeks training, then moving to nights 39hrs per week Mon to Fri.

The Suitable Candidate

Suitable candidates will be able to provide the following demonstrable skills -

A strong background within CNC machining of components within a high quality, low volume production environment
Experience with CNC turning lathes ideally FANUC based controls
Be able to demonstrate experience with editing and modifying programmes
Experience with quality inspection of all own work using tools and gauges
Flexibility towards overtime when available

Site Engineer

£28000 - £28700 per annum CALL OUT BONUS & VAN

A service engineer is required for a global market leader of renewable energies based within the UK. The position requires you to provide service and maintenance to generators and other site plant across key sites in the Yorkshire area. It's a permanent contract paying £28K basic with a pay increase after 3 months, and it comes with call out bonus, company vehicle and fuel card, 25 days holiday and pension.

The company

A leading provider of anaerobic waste digestion, and associated gases conversion into renewable energies, the company provide a wide range of solutions for sites all over the UK. Operating regionally, they support a range of clients from food production, dairy, distilleries, landfill sites and many others. They offer round the clock support both remotely and site based, with teams of engineers designated to their regions.

The role

The purpose of the role is to maximise electrical production and reduce operational costs by taking responsibility (where this is economically beneficial) for the operation and maintenance of as much plant and equipment as possible. Key to this will be our ability to operate and maintain our own generating sets and gas processing plant. To ensure the operation and maintenance of all operational generator sets, plant and gas systems to achieve maximum safe electrical output

Responsibilities

  • Day to day operations and maintenance including but not limited to; fault diagnosis, location and rectification
  • Planned maintenance and breakdown response on the generator sets with minimum outages
  • Utilisation and compliance of the company's operations and maintenance procedures, manuals, record keeping and stock control systems.
  • Execution of all generator maintenance and the use of Operations staff to undertake minor maintenance on generators as required by the management.
  • Maintenance and repair of all mechanical and electrical plant, including pumps and motors at all facilities.
  • Maintenance and inspection of LV electrical equipment subject to training and competency
  • Operation of HV switchgear subject to training and competency.
  • Commissioning of new build including all associated equipment ranging from the generator to telephone line communications.
  • Repair and maintenance of generators.
  • Training, support and supervision of Operations Technicians to undertake minor maintenance and simple fault finding.
  • Support the on call rota with 24-hour emergency response, as part of a team of 6 rota
  • Ordering of spares and control of stock.
  • Contractor supervision.
  • Implementation of HSQE systems.
  • Compliance and implementation of company environmental protection procedures with a proactive approach to maintaining, monitoring, reporting and auditing, and updating company systems.
  • Conduct air emissions monitoring.
  • Compilation and completion of outstanding works raised by site audits.
  • Ensure company vehicles in your care are maintained to manufacturer's specification and in keeping with policy.
  • Deal directly with environmental spillages using pollution prevention equipment and materials

The ideal candidate

  • Extensive knowledge and experience of Electrical and Mechanical maintenance.
  • Recognised level in an Electrical skill or relevant experience in the field.
  • Experience with electric control systems 12v DC - 415v AC 30
  • Fault location, diagnosis and rectification
  • Experience working with Landfill Gas, specialist fuels and/or on generators is advantageous

Working hours are 8:30am - 5pm Monday to Friday. Any additional hours worked during the week are given back as time off in lieu.

CNC Setter

A well established precision engineering company based in Derby, is seeking an experienced CNC Milling Setter to join their rapidly expanding team. The role is working days 40hrs p/w Mon to Fri, paying up to £13 p/h along with uncapped overtime, and other benefits.

Boasting a huge modern manufacturing complex with state of the art machinery and facilities, to ensure the very best quality is achieved for their customers.

The role

Responsibilities of the CNC Milling Setter include -

Setting up and operating of 3 and 5 axis machining centres with Heidenhain controls
Calling up programmes, making modifications, adjustments and edits as required
Full machine setup including jigs, fixtures, selecting correct tooling, datums and speeds
High frequency setup and breakdown of jobs daily, for low volume / one off component manufacture
Machining of tool steels, hard steels and composite materials
First off part for approval, using quality measuring equipment and gauges
Working from detailed engineering drawings and job route cards
General upkeep and maintenance of the CNC Machinery

Working hours are 7:30am - 4pm Monday to Friday, with 1/2hr lunch per day and 15min break in the morning.

The Suitable Candidate

Suitable candidates will be able to provide the following demonstrable skills -

A strong background within CNC machining of components within a high quality, low volume production environment
Experience with multi axis machining centres, preferably using Heidenhain controls
Be able to demonstrate experience with editing and modifying programmes
Experience with quality inspection of all own work using tools and gauges
Flexibility towards overtime when available
