A fantastic opportunity exists for a Operations Manager to join a world leading manufacturer who supplies into multiple sectors such as Aerospace, Automotive, FMCG and General Manufacturing.



JOB PURPOSE:



To manage all aspects of manufacturing within the standard product operational unit with responsibility for planning, logistics, and assembly, with the ultimate challenge of 100% performance to customer request date. Accountabilities in addition to meeting on time delivery targets include Warranty/Quality levels, product/overhead cost, inventory control, driving World Class practices through lean activities and achieving clearly defined business goals/targets.





KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:



* To meet defined business goals/targets.
* Use levelled production techniques to achieve a consistent 'beat-rate' for make to stock objectives.
* Drive response times to attain World Class levels of product availability and On-Time Performance targets measured against Customer Request Date.
* To attack inventory levels and improve turns to meet company targets though the continued development and expansion of material control systems, including Kanban processes.
* To drive down costs covering both material and overheads in an aggressive fashion, through a structured and far reaching process.
* To supervise quality improvements throughout the manufacturing and supply base.
* To increase the rate of culture change, with greater emphasis on empowerment, and individual/collective responsibility through delegation.
* To introduce new working practices/processes where applicable.
* To develop improved plant layouts and implement/oversee changes without affecting customer deliveries.
* To create and implement measures of performance and control across the operational unit.
* To operate in a matrix structure - working to create a team and develop common goals at senior level.
* Manage and develop the workforce; represent the company in labour negotiations.
* EDUCATION:
* PERSON SPECIFICATION:
*

* Educated to Degree level or similar qualification - ideally in engineering.
*

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE:



* Will have been actively working on shop floor improvement projects and managed shop floor people in a unionised culture.
* Demonstrable success using manufacturing-planning and materials replenishment techniques.
* Has operated in a Lean Environment and personally implemented Lean techniques.
* Trained/developed/assisted and supported employees in the achievement of manufacturing excellence.
* Has operated at supervisory level of a manufacturing business - possibly in the automotive industry.
* Has demonstrated the achievement of both Business & Personal performance goals.
* Preferably working, or worked for an International organisation.
* COMPETENCES/PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

* High level of energy with a "can do" attitude.
* Results oriented .
* Articulate and with stature and credibility to influence from board level through to shop floor.
* Is a finisher - sees plans and programmes through to successful completion.
* Assertive and highly persuasive.
