Lead Mechanical Systems Engineer

A leading manufacturer of vehicle safety critical solutions is looking to recruit a Lead Mechanical Systems Engineer to join their team.

Purpose of Role:

The Lead Mechanical Systems Engineer will require technical leadership in the delivery of bespoke

ready to install solutions to the commercial vehicle and rail market.

Skills / Experience:

* Proven experience in mechanical design and development
* 3D CAD Package
* Understanding of processes & design requirements for delivering Thermal, Acoustic, Dynamics and Durability
* Experience of developing Design and Design verification plans
* Working knowledge of requirements for interfacing into Hybrid/Electrical vehicle architectures
* Technical Project delivery in a similar environment (e.g. Vehicle OEM, Truck/Bus/Coach, Vehicle Converter or similar)
* Working knowledge of DFMEA and GD&T
* Understanding of the design requirements for fabrication and assembly
* Understanding of typical material properties and their application to product design and function
* IT Literate - Microsoft Office

Responsibilities:

* Provide expertise and knowledge to provide robust solutions
* Develop package & performance specifications based on customer requirements
* Develop design & development plans which deliver the requirement within the overall project timing
* Conduct concept design reviews to determine optimised design
* Author and maintain project control documents

(Development Plans, Drawing release plans, DFMEA, BoMs)

* Lead (technical & design) problem resolution activities
* Ensure 'fit for purpose' design and performance
* Ensure the appropriate interface to facilitate the mounting and integration of alternative drives e.g. Hydraulic, Shaft & Air treatment
* Direct design ownership for the complete package including after-treatment
* Create and release 3D models, 2D drawings and BoM (into SAP)
* Support Customer builds and commissioning activities as warranted by the project
