Interim Executive Director of Finance

Hours: 36.5 (full-time)

Salary: 50 -55k

Duration: Min 6 months fixed term contract (with possible progression to permanent post)

Annual Leave: 25 days Bank Holidays

Our client is a supported living provider operating across Birmingham providing housing and tailored support to those who have experienced homelessness. Following a period of growth, the organisation is subject to increased regulatory scrutiny and reporting whilst they continue improving their quality housing and support to over 1700 customers. In response, a Non-Exec led Board was introduced earlier this year and a restructure of the Executive Team is underway.


* To work as part of the Executive Team, sharing responsibility for the corporate leadership, strategic direction and development of the organisation, ensuring it is compliant with all relevant legislation and regulation.
* Lead and manage the finance function for the organisation, including developing financial plans, implementing and monitoring effective finance systems including rent and service charge reviews, overseeing administering payments and procurement.
* Responsible for the identification and management of risks within the finance function and support risk management activities across the rest of the organisation, providing expert professional advice to the CEO, Governing Board and staff as required.
* Produce and deliver financial reports to guide the CEO and Governing Board in making sound business decisions in the long and short term.
* Develop strategies based on financial research to ensure value for money.
* Develop effective policies and procedures to assist the smooth running of the finance function.
* Ensure efficient and effective processes and systems are in place to ensure all financial activities are carried out within regulatory guidelines and in compliance with statutory and legal requirements.

Key Tasks

1 Develop and manage a financial control framework, including financial policies and procedures, to ensure robust governance
2 Manage and monitor financial operations within the organisation, such as payroll, invoicing and other transactions.
3 Responsible for implementing effective procurement strategies ensuring value for money
4 Contract outside services for tax preparation, auditing, banking, investments and other financial needs as necessary.
5 Track the organisation's financial status and performance to identify areas for potential improvement.
6 Seek out methods for minimising financial risk to the organisation.
7 Implement systems for administering the financial functions for the team, including rent and service charge setting and income processing.
8 Manage schedules and deadlines.
9 Review financial data and prepare monthly and annual reports.
10 Present financial reports and long-term financial forecasts to the Governing Board.
11 Recommend appropriate accounting software and roll out training to finance/admin staff appropriately.
12 Lead a team of finance/administration staff to ensure they are working effectively within guidelines.
13 Monitor inventory of office supplies for the organisation and the purchasing of new material with attention to budgetary constraints.
14 Ensure the finance/admin function adheres to policies, procedures and regulations.
15 Ensure the smooth flow of information within the company to facilitate other business operations.
16 Carry out other tasks or duties reasonably required by the CEO or Governing Board
17 To act as deputy to CEO.
