Senior R&D Engineer

A global manufacturer of safety critical components, is looking to strengthen its team with the appointment of an experienced Senior R&D Engineer.

Purpose of Role:

The Senior Research & Development Engineer will be responsible for the development of new composite products and processes in a highly challenging and fast-paced environment.

The Successful Candidate:

* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
* At least 4 years' experience in a similar role
* Strong technical understanding and proven track record of developing composite technologies from a low technology readiness level
* Experienced in composite manufacturing techniques using both thermoset & thermoplastic matrices
* Able to analyse and solve new engineering problems using first principles
* Background in Solid Mechanics, Stress Analysis & Material Science
* Hands-on approach to developing components, manufacturing processes and testing methods

Responsibilities Overview:

* Lead the development of structural composite components
* Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with key milestone dates, customer deliverables and within budget
* Create & develop relationships with selected development partners to build in-house capabilities
* Management of all product requirements through engagement with all parties
* Implement design validation activities using first principle calculations and oversee FEA
* Author design tools based on development project findings
* Create detailed CAD models and drawings
* Carry out testing to validate component and material performance
* Develop new and update current manufacturing processes
* Provide reports and documentation necessary to demonstrate product technology and manufacturing progression
* Maintain industry, customer and competitor awareness to influence internal technology roadmap
* Clearly communicate actions and progress of engineering tasks in hand
