Transport Manager

A Warehouse and Distribution business is seeking a Transport Manager to run the whole Transport operation in order to help them fulfil an increasing level of orders. Supplying retailers and wholesalers across the UK, from small regional businesses to large blue chip companies covering the whole of the UK, this role will offer the appointment an exciting and challenging opportunity to heavily influence the success of a small SME making the transition to a large SME business.

You will be responsible for the transport management of their in-house fleet of class 1 and 2 vehicles to deliver your products to customers across the UK.

This position would suit an individual from a fast moving, multi drop background.

Job Duties.

  • Schedule the drivers within the relevant regulatory parameters to ensure customers' orders can be facilitated
  • To check all driver licences and driver CPC qualifications (DQC) are valid prior to driving a Company vehicle
  • Retaining drivers hours records (no less than 12 months) and working time records (no less than 24 months) in a manner which means they are available upon request to any statutory or otherwise interested body
  • Monitor driver daily defect checks to ensure that all drivers are completing and returning their driver defect reporting sheets and that defects are recorded correctly
  • Complete adequate checks of records to ensure that drivers and mobile workers take adequate breaks and appropriate periods of daily and weekly rest
  • Download and store digital tachograph unit data (at least every 90 days) and from the drivers' smart cards (at least every 28 days)
  • Maintain vehicle maintenance records for a period of no less than 15 months
  • Manage the maintenance process to ensure that all vehicles and trailers are kept in a fit and roadworthy condition
  • Ensure that defects are either recorded and repaired promptly, or where not roadworthy are taken out of service
  • Ensure that all fleet and driver records are compliant with all aspects of DVLA & VOSA.
  • Logistics operations and management.
  • Support and work closely with the Sales & Operations team

Skills and Experience required

  • You will need to have operated at an assistant transport manager level and above.
  • Excellent geographical knowledge of the UK.
  • A strong understanding of transport/logistics.
  • Up to date knowledge or current transport regulations and compliance.
  • Organisational and time-management ability.
  • Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Good attention to detail.
