Transformer Commissioning Engineer

Job Introduction

This is a home-based position where the individual could be located anywhere in the UK.

We are currently seeking a Transformer Commissioning Engineer to carry out on-site commissioning, fault diagnosis, maintenance, inspections, repairs and modification of a range of Transformer and Tapchanger products across our UK and overseas clients.

Role Responsibility

  • Commissioning, repair and maintenance of the companies range of Transformer and Tapchanger products, both on site and in factory.
  • Test Power and Grid transformers up to 132kV.
  • Undertake fault diagnosis of transformers and related equipment; test and rectify as necessary.
  • Interpret specifications and technical requirements; prepare method statements and prepare detailed and concise reports for submission to customers. Attend technical meetings on site and at customers' premises.
  • Undergo training if necessary to ensure that current and future H&S requirements are met at all times.
  • Supervise and train customers' site personnel.
  • Carry out an on-site risk assessment on every assignment and record details thereof on the special form provided.
  • Provide written reports on completion of each assignment.
  • Ensure all data protection activities of personal and special category data; pertaining to current employees, customers and all other external stakeholders, are done so in line with the company's data Protection Policy.

  • Able to undertake extensive UK site working, in addition to attending sites both offshore and overseas, often for protracted periods.
  • This is a challenging and important role requiring a high degree of technical competence with a corresponding level of self-sufficiency and resourcefulness, as global time difference often mean that factory support is not immediately available.
  • Experience in dealing with customers effectively

Qualifications:

  • Minimum HNC (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering
  • Qualified through a recognised Technical apprenticeship in tapchangers or transformers
  • A minimum of four year's experience required in transformer/tapchanger test/commissioning.
  • Experience in representing the company at customers' sites and operating remotely on own initiative whilst observing the requirements set down in the company's code of Conduct for Commissioning Engineers.
  • Able to work with company's rules and guidance notes on health and safety, including operation of safe systems of work in relation to high voltage and medium voltage electrical systems and work in a heavy industrial environment.
